Our total compensation package includes various benefits, described below.

Competitive Pay
Compensation rates are determined by job classification, experience, education, and qualifications.

Accidental Death & Term Life Insurance
An accidental death and term life benefit of $15,000 is provided for all full-time employees. The city pays the full cost for coverage.

Dental Insurance
Dental insurance is provided for all full-time employees and their dependents. The city pays 80% of the cost for coverage.

Employee Assistance Program
The City provides all employees with access to services such as counseling, stress management, financial and legal advice, and assistance with drug and/or alcohol dependency through an Employee Assistance Program.

Flexible Spending Accounts
Medical and dependent care reimbursement accounts are available for all employees.

Health Insurance
The City of Lansing provides full-time employees with health insurance. The city pays 80% of the base plan cost for coverage for all plans.

Personal Day
All full-time employees receive one eight-hour personal day per year. Regular part-time employees receive a personal day per year equal to the number of hours the employee is regularly scheduled to work. Personal days are granted after an initial six month probationary period. Employees must use all personal hours at one time.

Sick Leave
All full-time employees shall earn 3.69 hours of sick leave per pay period for a total of 96 hours annually.

All employees working 1,050 hours or more annually contribute to the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System beginning their first day of hire. Police personnel contribute to Kansas Police and Fire. Participation is mandatory.
  • KPERS employees contribute 6% of gross salary.
  • KP&F employees contribute 7.15% of gross salary.

All members of KPERS and KP&F are provided long term disability benefits through KPERS. The city pays the full cost for coverage.

The city contributes 2% of an employee's gross pay each pay period for full-time employees. This benefit excludes employees who are eligible for KP&F. All employees may make optional contributions to their account.

Supplemental Insurance
The city offers optional supplemental insurance benefits. Examples of benefits available include accident indemnity, cancer indemnity, critical illness indemnity, life insurance, short-term disability insurance, and vision insurance. All employees are eligible for these benefits. Premiums are provided at a discounted group rate and are paid by the employee through payroll deduction.

Tuition Reimbursement
The city encourages employees to further their education. Tuition reimbursement is available to all full-time employees. Employees can be reimbursed for up to $100 per credit hour or $1,300 per calendar year for eligible expenses. Employees will not receive reimbursement for classes that they have “tested out” of for credit or for lifetime learning credits.

Vacation Leave
Regular part-time employees accrue 1.85 hours of vacation per pay period. Regular full-time employees accrue vacation according to the chart below.

Wellness Program
The City of Lansing provides a voluntary program for employees that includes use of an exercise room, "Lunch and Learn" sessions, and wellness challenges.
