The city of Lansing has hired Matthew Schmitz from Shawnee as its new Community and Economic Development Director.
Schmitz will lead the City’s efforts in land use, planning and economic development. In Shawnee, he led efforts to roll out Google Fiber, as well as “Nieman Now!” – a $38 million group of development and revitalization projects in the downtown area. Schmitz has provided development, implementation, oversight and enforcement for Shawnee’s Right-of-Way program. He also has experience in residential subdivision design and implementation.
Schmitz has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Kansas State University. He is working towards a Master’s degree in Public Administration at the University of Kansas. He will start with the city of Lansing on March 6, 2018.
