Mayor Gene Kirby entered office in May, 2014. Prior to becoming Mayor, he served as a city councilman representing Ward 1 from 2011-2014. Kirby has also served on the Lansing Board of Zoning Appeals.
Mayor Kirby is the oldest of seven children. He moved to Lansing in 1997 from Kansas City, Kans., where he and his wife, Debbie, were born and raised. They were married in 1976. The Kirbys have three children and two grandchildren. They are active members of The Compassionate Friends of Leavenworth, a support group for those who have lost a child.
Mayor Kirby is the Manager of Mount Muncie Cemetery in Lansing.
